About Our Church

Central Baptist Church is an Independent, Fundamental, Bible-believing, Bible-preaching Church. We do our best to base what we do and say on God’s Word. We stay with the Fundamentals of the Faith, and try to please God in everything we do. We are looking to do more for our Savior in the years to come. Maybe God will lead you our way!

We currently support many missionaries here and around the world. At Central, we enjoy a rich, long missions heritage. We fully intend to continue that tradition, and expand it, until we are soon raptured.

About Our City

Harlingen, Texas and the Rio Grande Valley.....

Harlingen is located in Cameron County, Texas- the southern county in the continental United States. Cameron County is one of the four counties that comprise the "Rio Grande Valley". Cameron is the second most populated county in the Valley with a population of over 318,737. Cameron has seen a 23% population increase since 1990 and a 52% increase since 1980. Harlingen has a population of about 65,000 with a 16% increase since 1990 and a 30% increase since 1980.

The Rio Grande Valley is the area of the U.S. that has seen the greatest benefit from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The economy, like the population, is booming in the Valley.

About Our Dedicated Staff

Central Baptist Church has two full time staff members: Our Pastor and Youth Director. In addition, we have several members who work very hard serving in the Sunday School, Music, Nursing Home and Bus ministries of the church.

Our Pastor

Matthew Schumacher

Pastor Schumacher was born August 10th, 1973 and graduated from Fundamental Christian School in Brownsville, Texas. He was saved when he was 18 years old and a freshman at Pensacola Christian College. His major was accounting, but after being saved he felt the call to preach.

After surrendering to the call of God on his life, he completed his degree at Pensacola Christian College as a Bible major in 1996. He served as assistant pastor for 2 years at Williams Road Baptist Church in San Benito, Texas. Pastor Schumacher then became Youth Pastor of Central Baptist Church in 1998 and continued in that position until the church called him to be pastor in June of 2004.

"I am excited about what God is doing, and looking forward to a bright future in our church. If you are looking for a church that has a servant's spirit, heart for the family, and concern for souls; why not come and see what Central is all about!”

Our Youth Director

Mario Cruff

I am excited about what God is doing in the youth department, and looking forward to a bright future in our church. If you are looking for a church that has a heart for the today's youth, and concern for the soul's of our young people; why not come and see what we are all about”
